As we step into 2014, some of us will be making resolutions – to change a certain aspect or aspects of our lives which need change. A resolution is a determination, an affirmation. In and of itself, it can serve as the first step towards change. If we were to combine this first step with determined action, an action plan, we can considerably improve our chances of creating lasting change.

What does an action plan do for us? For one, it can create new habits for us. As we create new habits, we edge out the old habits – the ones that we are trying to get rid of, those old habits that are weighing us down, inhibiting our spiritual growth. It is action that helps us shed our inertia, helps us feel better, raises our self-image – for every small step that we take towards keeping our new-found resolve provides us additional energy to keep moving forward. We can use inertia – the tendency of a body to stay in motion once it is put into motion – to our advantage!
