The XYZ of Spiritual Actions

action, energy, intention, results

It is often at the beginning of every new (calendar) year, or any new significant ‘life event’, that we pause to consider and evaluate the changes that we may want to make in our life. It is the ‘crossroads’ that often provide us the openness to make (different) choices than the ones that we have been making on our journey(s) that have brought us this far. If we feel empowered enough and free enough to allow ourselves to make different choices, we can then take the next step.

This next step often involves ‘taking new action(s)’ to bring our new choices to life in our daily lives. If we do not act differently, our choices remain ‘frozen’ in our heart and mind in the shape of intentions. It is our new daily actions that breathe heat into our heart, and thaw out the intentions so that their results may flow within the world – ours and those that we are connected with. But where are we, who are often ‘stuck’ in our habits, dogmas, myths, and sometimes even our beliefs, to find the energy, the reasons and the support to take new actions?

Let us start at the ‘end result’ in my mind. Let me suggest that we go to the end of the alphabet, and consider the ‘XYZ’ of thawing our intentions through actions.

First, the X. We may think of this as the “X-factor”, or the ‘great unknown’. On my recent trip to Mexico, I was ‘accidentally’ introduced to a Mayan healer who talked about the concept of “Xi”. Yes, it is similar to the eastern concept of “Chi”. Xi is the dynamic life-force that flows within all of us. The Mayans believe that Xi comes to us ‘at birth’, through the one who births us. When we are in a ‘lower state’ of vibration – weighed down by anger, hate, revenge, and so on – our Xi suffers. We are drained of Xi. The good news is that we can re-energize ourselves by putting ourselves into a ‘higher state’ of vibration through the practice of awareness (of breath) an mindfulness (of the moment). What is the state of our Xi, the X-factor in our life?

Second, the Y. I think of this as the “why”. You may have heard the quote – “when the why is big enough, the facts don’t count”. I am sure that there has been at least one instance in your life where your reason, your why, was so strong, that you ignored all of the “so called’ facts. You took action anyway. I am not talking about ‘impulsive’, ‘spur of the moment’ actions that we often take. The bigger “why” is something that has been nudging us, speaking to us in our heart for so long that we can no longer ignore it. When we find ours, it becomes fuel for action that raises our Xi, and empowers those around us to raise their Xi too. Yes. That Y. Do you know your ‘Y’?

Third, the Z. We are often advised to ‘begin with the end in mind’. So, that becomes our Z. It is not exactly an ‘end’, but a milepost that we may create for ourselves. The milepost can inform us about how far we have come as a result of making new choices, taking new actions. The ‘Z’ can beckon to us to keep moving, to take that next step, while also being mindful and present about how and where we arrive with every step. Sometimes, we may ‘lose’ some loved ones along the path, and their loss may deplete our Xi, make us question our Why, cause us to reset and revise our milepost, our Z. We are reminded of the circle of life. Life has a way of reminding us of the XYZ – the consequences of our choices, our actions.

Life also has a way of renewing us. We begin anew. We arise, awaken to our reservoir of love. We relearn how to put joy in every step, in every action and celebrate every arrival along the way. Step by step, we raise our Xi, we rediscover our why, and we create new mileposts through our new choices and actions.

Like Richard Bach said, and I paraphrase – we are rarely given the gift of a choice without also being given the XYZ of making it happen…

Happy New Year, and Namaste!

The transitioning of Dr Wayne Dyer to the next phase of his journey this past Sunday evening brought an outpouring of a celebration of his life from many in the #SpiritChat community. No matter where I seemed to look, on twitter or of facebook or on some of the blogs that I came across, there was no mistaking the influence that Wayne and his life had on the personal lives of many. Some of the ‘tribute’ blog posts came into my awareness from @MessagesOf_Hope, @EmeliaSam and @MaggieMistal. Please do read their thoughts, as all of them have hosted or co-hosted the weekly #SpiritChat hour on twitter in the past.

While I never had the opportunity to personally meet him or even be at his personal seminars, his presence was felt in my life through his books and from watching him speak during his frequent appearances on Public Television in the USA. One of his most popular books was “The Power of Intention” (iTunes link)“. The introductory notes to this book state, and I quote:

Intention is generally viewed as a pit-bull kind of determination propelling one to succeed at all costs by never giving up on an inner picture. In this view, an attitude that combines hard work with an indefatigable drive toward excellence is the way to succeed. However, intention is viewed very differently in this book…

Needless to say, #intention may have had a ‘bad rap’ in many people’s minds, before they read Wayne Dyer’s perspective on it. Wayne interpreted #intention as, and I paraphrase…

Intention is not something you do – but an energy you’re a part of. We’re all intended here through the invisible power of intention…

Dr Wayne Dyer seemed to sweep away the dust that had been laden on #intention and her role and importance in the spiritual development by revealing anew a newer, softer, gentler, creative perspective…

the attributes of the all-creating universal mind of intention are creative, kind, loving, beautiful, expanding, endlessly abundant, and receptive…

As I reflected on writing this cover post for our weekly chat, I looked at the last month of August for an example of the role that this energy of #intention had played in my personal life. Some of you may have seen some of my recent posts on twitter with photos of #walking in #nature. In the last week of July, I had set a loose intention of ‘walking with intent’, walking 10,000 steps every day. I did not really have an ‘action plan’ or a ‘goal’ or a ‘to-do list’ for walking. The intention simply surfaced to the forefront of my heart, and I decided to be more mindful of the energy that this intent brought with it. And what a revelation it has been, as I have followed the loving energy of this intention over the past few weeks… (detailed story to come later :))

So, in celebration of the influence that Wayne has already had on many, and in celebration of the influence that his transition will have on many in the future, I invite you to reflect, with intention, on the role of dynamic spiritual energy of #intention in your life. Where do you think that intention comes from? When intention appears, what do you often do with it? What is the potential for intention to lead to a deep-sea dive of transformation for us? How do we remain aware of not transferring (our own) intention(s) into expectation(s) (of others)?

For those of you who have come and read this far, I appreciate your reading, and extend an invitation to come share with us on Sunday September 6th at 9amET/1pmUTC/6:30pm India on twitter in #SpiritChat. The topic will be "Spirituality and Intention”. If you would like to share outside of the hour of the live chat, please use hashtag #SpiritChat or add your thoughts in the comments below.

I wish you all, the best that this moment has to offer,

Namaste,

Kumud @AjmaniK

P.S. Many thanks to my good friend @StayAdventurous for sharing the idea of this chat topic with me. I am glad that my initial (seed) intention to take his suggestion to heart has grown into a seedling 🙂 Also, please see the related posts in the #SpiritChat FaceBook group. If you wrote a blog post related to Wayne Dyer, please share with me so I can add a link to this post. Thank you!

Our featured host on our weekly twitter chat #SpiritChat this week is ‘Intuitve Business and Life Coach’, Elisa Balabram. Please join Elisa in a conversation on Sunday, December 14th 2014 at 9amET / 2pmUTC about “Spirituality and Intention”! I am very grateful that Elisa has agreed to step up and lead the chat while I am on travel. Please join her and share. Thank you! ~ Kumud

After suggesting to Kumud Ajmani the #SpiritChat topic of “The Spirit of Intention”, I couldn’t think of questions to ask.

However, as soon as we agreed on it, I saw this post by Marianne Williamson on Facebook, and I interpreted it as a sign ; ): “Enter any moment devoid of agenda, with an absence of posturing, and with your only intention being to send love to everyone you meet or even think of… Happiness, miracles and inner peace will follow.”

I kept feeling stuck and made several attempts to write about the Spirit of Intention. Until I finally realized what was missing. I hadn’t set an intention for this post or the chat. So I started with this intention: My intention is to have a conversation about how setting intentions makes a huge difference in how we experience life, and the difference it makes to set one in each moment. Wow, that’s a mouthful. A simplified version of this intention is to intentionally be a part of a loving chat. And perhaps you will feel inspired to join us on Sunday, or to simply set an intention for yourself.

I started setting intentions more often after reading “The Law of Attraction” book by Abraham – Esther and Jerry Hicks many years ago. I have gotten into the habit of setting intentions every morning, although the book recommends that we set intentions in each moment.

As the end of the year approaches, I invite you to look back at 2014, how has the year been for you? Were you able to set intentions that helped you get through your days, and that helped you achieve what you wanted to create this year? How did setting intentions play a role in your life this year?

Based on how the year has been what different intentions could you set to create and attract different experiences in your life in 2015?

Join us on December 14th for a conversation on the “Spirituality and Intention” at #SpiritChat

Feel free to suggest questions for The Spirit of Intention Chat by sending me a Tweet @womenandbiz by Saturday December 13th.

We kick off the “Summer Series” for our weekly Sunday morning conversations with our first guest – Jill Leigh. The topic will be “Intention”. Please enjoy this framing post written by Jill Leigh for our discussion. I hope you will join Jill and me for what promises to be a very interesting conversation. Thank you.

What role does intention play in your life? Is it part of your spiritual practice, your way of being?

Intentionality serves as a means of discerning choice and desire. Used to hone focus and to keep the eye on the prize, intention is a key spiritual concept, one that is prescribed throughout religious, metaphysical and alternative healing practices.

Learning to apply intent is a beautiful spiritual practice, assisting the seeker to develop a level of mindfulness about thought, word and deed. Intentions held in conscious awareness inform the mind, body and spirit, and support metabolization of energy for manifest reality.

Intentions are best applied through positive focus, what is wanted, desired or needed, rather than the opposite. And yet sometimes people find themselves focused on intention through what they don’t want, need or desire. ‘I don’t want another relationship like the last one.’ Or ‘I don’t need another car that breaks down like this one does.’

While figuring out what is not wanted, desired or needed can be the initial process for developing an intention, it’s merely the basis for framing an intention.

Taking a moment to articulate what is wanted, desired or needed in positive terms is an important component to manifesting that objective.

The Spiritchat community is fully intentional in inviting you to join us on Sunday, June 9 at 9am ET to discuss this topic and support one another in living our lives through intentional focus.
